Her tenure at The Washington Post was spent reporting on several Olympics, Grand Slam Tennis, football and basketball. Nichols was a reporter for nine years with ESPN which was where she earned 2 Emmy Awards. In addition, Nichols was an on-line reporter for Monday Night Football broadcasts. After that, she joined CNN as well as Turner Sports. Unguarded the show, which she co-produced and hosted was telecast every day on CNN International. It was watched by millions of viewers around the world. During this time Nichols was a reporter for TNT's NBA broadcasts, including the regular season, playoffs, and All-Star broadcast teams. She also reported for TBS covering baseball and golf broadcasts, and Final Four broadcasts on CBS. It was only the second time in its 42-year history that a women had been selected from more than 200 nominations.
