Based on her observation of shadows reflected on the ground, the artist spent many months perfecting a technique to convey objects in two dimensions on canvas. The subject instead transforms into a reproduction of itself, where the surface transforms into the medium for it's individual interpretation of the subject, particularly when the subject is living or perishable items like people or fruits. Alexa's style of painting exhibits a hazy quality and the only thing left of Alexa Meade is her photograph. Because the photography and painting techniques are coordinated so closely it creates the trompe-l'oeil effect in which the illusion of 3D appears only at specific points, such as the area around the eyes or hair. Meade often incorporates models painted in the space surrounding them. It allows them to interact with this world the artist has constructed. In this way, she blurs the lines between photography, painting performance and installation.
